The Brantford Red Sox have captured their first Intercounty Baseball League pennant since 1983.
Hosting the Barrie Baycats on Wednesday in the final game of the regular season, Brantford posted a 1-0 win at Arnold Anderson Stadium to place them first in the nine-team league.
The win gives the Red Sox a 24-12 record, one game better than the second-place Toronto Maple Leafs (23-13).
Brantford manager Adam Clarke was obviously happy that his team captured the pennant.
"It does mean something but ultimately our goal is to bring a championship to Brantford," said Clarke, whose team has won three of the past four IBL playoff titles.
